LEGO Display Case Prices, From a Factory Owner: $11.30 to $107.35, and What Each Tier Buys
Share
I sell a display case for $11.30. Not a sale, not a loss leader, not a "first order" discount. A real product, in stock, with a 2cm wood-grain base and 3mm panels, ready to ship. Half the listings I see when I look around online ask more than that for a cardboard sleeve with a window cut in it. So today, instead of marketing language, I'm going to walk our line. Three boxes, real prices, what changes between them.
What's in every Scoparius case
Every case we make starts with the same sheet — 3mm cast acrylic, 98% transparency, water-polished edges so there's nothing for your fingers to catch on. The base is 2cm raised, brushed black on the LEGO and Pop Mart line and wood-grain PVC on the wood-grain line. The four side panels snap together with a connector system we designed in-house — no glue, no clips, no tools. UV-printed background is optional, but the option uses the same printer, the same ink, the same hands.
A box that costs us $11.30 to make and a box that costs us $107.35 to make both leave the same QC stamp. That's important. The guy on the assembly bench writes his initials and the batch number on the underside of the base, in marker, before the case goes into the bag. You'll never see it from the outside. But if a customer ever has a problem, we can trace that box back to the exact sheet of acrylic it was cut from. Every box gets that. The $11.30 box and the $107.35 box. Same hands, same marker, same bench.
One more thing you'll notice when you first crack open the outer carton. There's a sharp, faintly sweet note in the air, like the inside of a hardware store. That's fresh-cut acrylic — the sheet itself, off the cutter, not a coating. It fades in about a day once the case is sitting in a room with normal airflow. Once the protective film is on and the case is sealed in plastic, the smell goes.
The $11.30 anchor: Scoparius 2cm wood-grain display box
A lot of people land on our store looking for a case for a specific LEGO or Pop Mart set, and then they scroll down to the wood-grain display box. It's the line we built for "any size, any model, any figure, any sculpture." You pick a height from 10cm to 50cm and a footprint from 10×10cm to 50×50cm. There are 75 size combos. The starting price is $11.30 — that's the 10×10×10cm box, the smallest, the cheapest thing we ship.
This line uses the same 3mm acrylic sheet and the same Snap-Fit connector system as the LEGO and Pop Mart line. The only difference is the base: a 2cm wood-grain PVC base, raised 1cm higher than the older 1cm chevron base. The wood-grain pattern isn't smooth like a photo print — it has a faint tooth, almost like very fine sandpaper. Set a 250g metal figure on it, give the case a little tilt, the figure stays put. That's why a lot of customers use the 20×20×20cm or 30×30×30cm size (around $45 to $79) for action figures, model cars, and small sculptures that don't have a dedicated LEGO or Pop Mart case.
We make these in the same shop, on the same line, with the same crew. No middleman, no reseller markup, no minimum order. The price you see is the factory-direct price.
LEGO 42231 Dodge Charger R/T: $45.20 to $90.40, a 45cm muscle car
The newest box on the line is for the LEGO 42231 Dodge Charger R/T. It's 45cm long, 25cm deep, 15cm tall — a low, wide, red-and-black brick. There are four tiers.
- No Background — $45.20. The case, the 2cm brushed black base, the mirror floor, the water-polished sides. No print, no light.
- With Background — $56.50. We add a UV-printed themed background (Dodge 1970 Charger R/T red-and-black art with the "25" anniversary graphic). Still no light.
- Ring Light + With Background — $67.80. We add a 6000K LED ring tucked into the top, slide-open door, multi-case serial lighting that links to a single switch. The same 3mm acrylic, now illuminated from above.
- Solid Wood Ring Light + With Background — $90.40. The top and bottom panels are upgraded from 10mm PVC to 12mm natural wood. The LED ring stays, the slide-open door stays, the multi-case link stays. The frame changes from PVC to wood.
So $45.20 to $90.40. The 2x price ratio is mostly the LED ring system (LED chip, driver, wiring, switch) plus the wood upgrade. The acrylic, the base, the assembly, the QC marker — those costs are the same at every tier.
LEGO 43237 Isabela's Flower Pot: $50.85 to $107.35, a 30cm display
The third box on the bench this morning is the LEGO 43237 Isabela's Flower Pot. The model is 20cm wide, 15cm deep, 30cm tall — narrow, tall, colorful (a pink woven basket with purple orchids on top, a small casita behind it). The case is 20×15×30cm to fit.
Four tiers, same structure as the Charger:
- No Background — $50.85
- With Background — $62.15
- Ring Light + With Background — $84.75
- Solid Wood Ring Light + With Background — $107.35
The interesting thing about the flower pot is the background. The UV print shows the Encanto casita in a garden, with the flower pot in the foreground. Because the model is mostly pink, we run a slightly cool background — warm tones fight the pink, cool tones make it pop. If you've got a set with a strong color character, send us a photo first; we'll tell you if the print is going to flatter the model or fight it. Free, no order required.
What moves the price
If you strip the line down, every case we make has three cost layers.
- The acrylic. 3mm high-clarity, same sheet, same supplier. Cost per case scales with the panel area, not the tier. The $11.30 box and the $107.35 box use the same sheet.
- The base. Brushed black PVC on the LEGO and Pop Mart line, wood-grain PVC on the wood-grain line. 2cm raised. The 12mm natural wood upgrade on the Solid Wood Ring Light tier is a real cost — we have to source the wood, plane it, finish it.
- The LED system (ring light tiers only). 6000K LED chip, driver, wiring, switch, the multi-case link. This is the single biggest price jump. If you don't need the light, skip the ring light tier and save $22 to $34.
The "With Background" tier adds a UV-printed panel — $11 to $12 over No Background. The "Solid Wood Ring Light" tier adds wood — $22 to $23 over Ring Light. That's the math. There's no mystery markup.
Custom sizes, free, same line
We get a lot of emails asking for a non-standard size. The answer is: yes, we do it, on the same line, at the same factory-direct price. The rules are simple.
- Send us a hi-res image of your model (1MB or more, 300dpi if it's a photo, 1MB+ if it's a render). Low-res images print blurry — the ink dots get visible at about 1cm viewing distance.
- Add 3cm to the length, 3cm to the width, 5cm to the height of the model. That's your inside case dimension. The 3/3/5 leaves finger space to lift the model in and out without scraping the panels.
- Pick a background color: dark backgrounds make light-colored models pop, light backgrounds make dark models pop. If you're not sure, send us the model photo; we'll mock it.
- Non-standard sizes cost the same as standard sizes, per square centimeter of acrylic. No surcharge.
Lead time is the same as standard sizes (about 1-2 days to cut, plus shipping). The 12mm wood variant is +$20 over the ring light tier; the 10mm PVC variant is the standard ring light tier.
Three boxes, one line
The 42231 Charger ($45.20 to $90.40), the 43237 Flower Pot ($50.85 to $107.35), and the wood-grain display box ($11.30 to $180.80) all live on the same production line, in the same shop, with the same crew. Different sheets, different bases, different LED systems — but the same 3mm acrylic, the same 2cm raised base, the same Snap-Fit connectors, the same QC marker on the underside.
If you want to see the full lineup — 665 cases across LEGO, Pop Mart, and the free-size wood-grain line — the shop is open. Browse, compare, and if a case doesn't exist for your set, send us the model and we'll cut one.
